Platt,
"liking what we like" is an emotional response; you and I are in concord.
I used to think that Truth was the highest value of the 4th level. But some
great minds have overthrown the truth of their cultural context in order to
bring out a higher truth that is apprehended first as an aesthetically -
oriented urge. Thus I'm of the mind that the Romantic aspect of
mind/consciousness is primary to mental evolution, the place where the
dynamic rubber intersects the metaphysical road. And all that classically
oriented intellectual stuff wherein we "make up reasons" comes later. Thus
my argument with Bo that SOM can't be the 4th level. It's not even the
primary aspect of the 4th level.
Romantical/Dynamic individual realization followed by classical/static
formulation to share with society.
When this new static pattern is introduced to society, it seems to the
society "dynamic change", until accepted, and static dogma ever after.
An ongoing pattern of intellectual/social evolution which explains
everything.
There.
