Subject: [MD] Oxford conference

Just recieved word from DmB about the conference in Oxford

with his permission I post his response:

Hey Ron,

I'd rather not go into the details. Let's just say that the city of Oxford
has banned me forever and the UK insists that stay out of the country for at
least two years. The good news is that I was able to avoid doing any actual
jail time. Whew!

Just kidding.

It was fantastic. I felt like a rock star. Met some totally fabulous people,
including a very charming Oxford philosopher. It was probably the best time
I ever had. Definitely in the top ten, at least. My favorite part was
answering questions and otherwise chatting with audience members. We had a
great little crowd that asked tough questions and made brilliant comments.
It was a whole room of highly educated Pirsig fans. (I asked who had read
Pirsig before attending and every hand shot up immediately. Well, almost
every hand. The questions and chit chat went on during breaks, during lunch,
during the presentations themselves and afterwards over drinks. It seemed
like everybody had a nice time. I think I may have even made a couple of new
friends. It was awesome and wonderful.

I'm the luckiest philosopher in the world. It's really quite astonishing.
The luck, I mean.

Not to mention the fact that our hosts were warm, thoughtful and generous.
They have a beautiful home full of books and art and Patrick Doorly can cook
like nobody's business.

It was also very nice to see Horse again and of course Ant and I had a great
time in Oxford as well as in London afterward.
