Hi John and all,
Imho in a DQ/SQ metaphysics there will always be something undefined in our
knowledge. SOM proposed that the undefined was found in S. Does that mean
that I can¹t be held responsible for what I am doing? Morality requires an
evolutionary environment for precision.
MOQ proposes that the level of evolution is undefined. In that way
evolution becomes a DQ basis for morality. With a mechanical outlook I go
astray and rape and kill on the leader¹s orders. Morally, I use the same
level materiality for some manifestations, e.g. breathing and talking. What
a mix-up!
As Bo pointed out, the Taliban abstracted the authority of the ruler of the
social level, and gave to an authority social figure, Allah, a complete rule
over all actions even Intellect. The two undefined levels higher Emotional
(social), and higher Intellectual, which operate beyond the intellectual
level of consciousness, are mistakenly banned from our consideration in
being indefinable. Pirsig is trying to throw a breath of fresh air into our
actions, from his own experience in seeing evolutionary limits as what is
indefinable but knowable.
We all do that abstraction, and that makes DQ/SQ metaphysics so important
for reflection. If I don¹t reflect (remember) why I do things, I do what
comes naturally food, sex. I can¹t communicate because I don¹t know your
abstractions, and a mechanical style of life, culture, becomes the moral
norm! God made me do it!
Intentional self-rule is often abrogated by the necessities for war by
romantic (social) leaders. I felt like it! Moq respectfully describes a
moral level beyond the social level, the intellectual. Heroes manage to
embrace higher levels of activity, described metaphorically in esoteric
literature as higher emotional and higher intellectual levels,
enlightenment.
