matt:
I don't know.  All I can recur to is my distinction between
faith and hope--faith that it _will_ get better vs. hope that
it _might_, a possibility with future actuality nestled safely
inside vs. a simple possibility--there ain't nothin' safe
about it.

gav: i don't think i went into enough depth re: faith in my prev posts.

hope is hope that things will get better

faith has no object.

faith is the inward certainty that no matter what eventuates everything is ultimately perfect. it cannot not be. it is hubris to believe that we can foresee how the future unfolds and what may seem calamitous now is seen as beneficial with the wisdom of hindsight.

it is the tragicomedy of life which is so beautiful...all the pain, misery, injustice and death... all relativised by the awareness that it is all a play, a ride, and we get off at the end and then decide what next to do. and this relativisation which at once renders all vicissitudes temporary does the same for the fleeting moments of exultation, joy, passion etc...tragedy and comedy - siamese.

hope this helps;-)
