[Dave]
After nearly 15 years and countless hours of head banging I finally came to
the conclusion that the MoQ just has too many problems. Since I just
recently came to this conclusion, from a philosophical point of view I'm not
sure how much is salvageable from either book.

[Krimel]
I share your frustration but I have to say none of it occurred until I
joined this forum. I spend a lot of time bad mouthing Pirsig often unfairly.
The truth is that ZMM has informed my world view for the past 35 years. And
Lila for the past 20 years. There are lots of mistakes that I tended to
gloss over in the past. But here they become problematic because many here,
against all expectation, actually emphasize rather than ignore them.

[Dave]
Right. What about the Weatherman,SDS etc ? I recently heard somewhere that
there were more acts of terroristic bombing and arson during that period
than any other in American history. Pirsig, no comment.

[Krimel]
Yeah, sort of, except I believe the terroristic bombing, arson and murder
where mainly in the area of civil rights. The hippie groups were pikers
compared to the Klan and southern racists. But again the point is, no
mention of any of this by Pirsig.

[Dave]
Or this which I recently caught in a reread of "The Matrix and Philosophy"

[Krimel]
There is a really good video on this which you might be able to reassemble
from its parts here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ysbczEYvKY

[Dave]
Why no reference to Marx, and only these two for Hegel, in Lila?

[Krimel]
True enough, which leads to a telling paraphrase:
"Why has the academy ignored Pirsig?
"Need we ask anyone to tell us these things?"
