The question of human sacrifice is interesting because while Jesus' death
was a political
act not a "sacrifice;" the idea that God demanded Jesus' death as a human
sacrifice is certainly part of Christianity.

That is the way I understood it as well. Used by the church authorities (at
least up until my childhood days) to instill even greater feelings of guilt,
submission and awe:'God sacrificed Jesus FOR YOU you know?'!!(and that to a
5-year old child!!)

Exactly but Christians never really talk or think about this in terms of
their God demanding a human sacrifice. That would put them in the
uncomfortable position of having to think of the morality of human sacrifice
in terms of the number demanded rather than the absurdity of the demand.
