Dave said to Andre:
Of course DMB knew it, he just hoped that I didn't. It was a deflection so he didn't have to answer the question. Which he still hasn't. And his answer, if it ever comes, will be some form of no mind/body, no problem. Of course this doesn't square with James, and current science but who cares.
dmb says:
I'm not trying to deflect anything. And what question have I failed to answer? What's wrong with the answers I've given? I really don't understand your hostility about this whole thing. I asked you to be more specific about what you're asking but you rejected that as some kind of trap-setting. You are assigning a lot of sinister motives to me and I really don't see how you're getting such a distorted impression.
How about if I turn the tables and suggest that you can't formulate a specific question because you don't really understand a difficult book that you just started reading. You're quizzing me on a topic you barely understand, if at all. Seriously, Dave, don't you think that's a pretty fair assessment? Would I be wrong to say that you don't understand the so-called hard problem of consciousness well enough to ask a specific question? It seems like you're dumping on me for not being an expert on the issue you raised based on a book you are reading. That hardly seems fair. You want me to tell you what Chalmers book says? Shouldn't you be telling me?
Is there something you really want to understand? Are you really looking for an answer? If so, your question has to be something more substantial than, "What about consciousness?" I've offer some initial thought about the general idea but I'm also scratching my head and thinking, "Yea, what about it?"
