By if by "intellectually-guided"  you mean the full outworking of patterns
of rational power-grabbing by self-interested individualism magnified on a
huge scale, resulting in some form of totalitarian control...

Well I agree completely.

God I hate "isms".  I'm not just a-ism'ist on this,   I'm anti-ism'ist.
