I feel that Dave did an excellent job
explaining. In fact this one is a keeper. The fact is that 
even before ZMM Bob's 1961 paper about quality in writing
addressed static intellectual patterns of value. Making
the point that Good writing is not objective it is an astetic.
Both his books are an expansion of this paper.
