the thing is, self-promotion in a vacuum is meaningless and valueless. 
I would rather pursue ignorance if it were only for myself.  I promote
my thinking mainly because I have expectations of social interaction. 
Therefore, I might say that my overriding interest is the 'discussion'
itself more than any 'lines' it might take in particular - of course,
this is tempered by the constraints of Quality=Morality.

And, about resolution, ... well, as I said, it is more the manner of the
discussion (little NOWs rather than a goal) wherein the Quality is to be
found.  For Marsha, I might say it is the process.  I understand that
people have lives and that posts might go unreplied for various
reasons...  But Marsha's refusal in this instance was entirely
disconnected from Quality, in my opinion.  Of course, I guess it's
possible that I change my mind.
