John to Andre:

How about intellect then, Andre?? Is it also biological?? Ideas are
created inside of brains, does this mean all ideas are biological?

Andre:
I don't know where you get this from John. Certainly not from what we are discussing here.If this follows logically from what I have said then I am interested to hear the steps taken which have led you to this conclusion.

John:
> From my perspective, this makes a complete hash of the levels.? We end
up with the MoRon view (metaphysics of randomness, ontologically
necessary) that? inorganic randomness is the cause of everything and
nothing has meaning.

Andre:
This is SOM all the way down. The MOQ has given it an entirely different interpretation...as you well know...where 'randomness' gives rise to differentiations at the inorganic level out of which emerge more complex differentiations called the organic level...all the way to the top.

John:
My "point of orientation" is that my biological reactions are the
effects of my emotions, not the cause of my emotions.

Andre:
You said it John, and it seems to me that this is not MOQ's orientation where Pirsig clearly states (in an effort to be clear in one's understanding of his MOQ) that emotions are a biological response to quality. As the James-Lange theory argues, the biological response IS the emotion.

John:
And yes, that was a sort of joke, but tell me Andre, how does one get
in touch with oneself "literally"????

Andre:
By being clear on what emotions are. I think you are looking for the standard ones (such as fear, sadness etc,) at the wrong level.
