Hi Khaled

I found your response most useful, we seem to agree on many things
about this "can of worms". To ask you about the affairs in Afghanistan
is a bit too much, but I just wonder how this proud and independent
people who have defeated all invaders from Alexander onwards let the
Taleban have their way. They may be Afghans but have been in
Pakistani "Koran schools" and the lifestyle they impose may not leave
people much independence - not personal such. They "slash and
burn", for instance throw acid at girls who attend schools and one
would think this causing outrage, but it is af their terror is accepted. My
effort at an explanation is that they are the GOOD muslims and in a
muslim country they are immune. Further my theory is that it is the US
and NATO presence that unites all into resistance and also lends so
much sympathy in Pakistan to the Taleban. The domino effect was
mistaken in Vietnam and is more so in this region. If the said forces
pulled out and even if the Taleban takes over - least Kabul - it would
not mean terrorists swarming all over the world. It's not the lack of
training camps that has prevented such in the past, but the security
and surveillance. But - phew - it has become a question of prestige,
some even talking about the end of NATO if they have to give up, as if
they are involved in some "Stalingrad siege". What does a North
Atlantic defence organization do in Central Asia?. BTW I recently
heard about some change of mind inside Al Qaeda, one Al Sharif (I
believe) who has dropped the militant line. Well, time will show.
See you
Bodvar
