Were they not religious enough or was the problem that their regimes were
too much like religious cults?

I wonder what significance can be attached to the fact that they were all
atheists. Should we find it very significant if we found out that they all
loved dogs, none of them ever watched an episode of Star Trek, or they all
had fathers who were emotionally distant?
