Instead he tried to impress a bunch of picky Jews.

Socrates should have used some sophisticated rhetoric and the vote would
have gone his way.

The Buddha should have said, "No thanks, I don't eat pork"

Pirsig should have hit the celebrity circuit, gone on Oprah and let Redford
play him in a movie.

Its a problem with messiahs.  always over-reaching.
