Bodavr replied:
In a show of magnanimity I'll respond to your cries for attention. Yes,
Pirsig shows how the MOQ has great explanatory power, but it's all
based on the intellect=SOM interpretation. As Platt points out, the
chapter about intellectual value joining force with biology to quell social
value is SOL-based and so is Pirsig's remark on the Moslem world
fighting intellect (because it disturbs society's own quelling of biological
value). Every single instance where MOQ wields its explanatory power
is based on the SOL, any other of the many strange definitions - f.ex.
"expansion of rationality" - is useless.
Ron after some thought:
Here is the problem Bodvar, any greater explanation is an expansion
of intellectual understanding. Something SOL rejects. It is an intellectual
explanation and all intellectual explanations are SOM per SOL.
Thats why you call the expansion of reason worthless.
Objective explanation is the highest static pattern. There is no
greater explanation. Thats the kind of answer you should have given
if you even understood your own interpretation.
Bodvar:
For further examples of its
power I can point to its clearing up of the age old problem of EVIL by
its level system, each level in turn creating a new evil and finally - by
revealing this context - the MOQ at least explains it. A problem that
has bothered humankind for ages, resolved in one stroke of genius, no
small feat! Another related enigma is how murder brings medals in
war, but is a crime in times of peace. This enigma is intellect-as-SOM
created, claiming human rights worth, freedom yet, having to watch
that all these abandoned if/when the bells toll. It's been a monster
platypus for as long as intellect has been in the driver's seat. The
MOQ explains this as when the intellectual latch don't hold we slip
down to the much stronger social latch where "our cause" takes over
and where no qualms exist by killing the enemy. But this also requires
the SOM-intellect, the Mind-intellect has zero explanatory power
Think before you launch a new "Ron-having-read-Aristotle" posts. You
can protest the SOL but that also means protesting the MOQ.
Ron:
As stated before, Religions explain evil. But now we have an objective
explanation for it, evil is evolutionary. . Evil is betterness. Every evil
wrought
by objective explanations is really evolutionarily superior. It really is better
per SOL. Which is why MoQ appears evil to SOM right? see this explains
everything, why people here think you are immoral and wrong, their just
steeped in SOM! I have to admit that is brillant Bodvar.
Id suggest that anyone who pursues an understanding concerning metatphysics
ought to read Aristotles "theory of explanation" I would suggest reading
Plato and Aristotle to any MoQ'er/ist / Pirsigian.
I suggest thinking before launching any "Bodvar knows Pirsigs real meaning
better than Pirsig"
posts...Horse sounds like he's had enough. This is his site, he is an individual
with his own values
and prefences. I suggest we respect that.
