Only serves to keep the status quo of the organism... in the face of
adverse forces. Only? That's a hell of a lot more than what raw
materials do. Isn't that enough? Isn't that dynamic enough to
constitute a radical value shift? Isn't persistence of a static
pattern exactly what's necessary to support the evolution of society,
i.e. the meaningful interaction between patterns?
