Is there something about Pirsig's description of the difference between
socialism and free enterprise you disagree with?
Ron replied:
None whatsoever, my problem is with your interpretation of it which neglects
the paragraphs surrounding that quote. About how he states that socialism is
more moral than capitalism and his reasons why.

That's right. Platt has been using quotes selectively for years. He's been
ignoring the passages about the moral superiority of socialism and the
degenerate regression back to Victorian values for just as many years. In fact,
I'd say that intellectual dishonesty is Platt's basic method of operation. I've
posted the quotes you refer to many, many times as a response to his right-wing
truth-twisting but it never makes any difference. So I gave up trying. But
Platt has never given up on lying.
It's depressing. It's a real gumption sucker and a waste of time.
Sigh.
[Platt]
Of course, quoting Pirsig saying capitalism is superior to socialism is a
"waste of time," but quoting him saying he doesn't agree that SOM in the
intellectual level isn't. In the first instance it's "lying." In the second
it's holy writ. Makes you wonder who is being "dishonest.".
