I think your main point about Pirsig emphasizing the  realization of the
unity of dialectical opposition - Romantic/Classic, is right on.

But your relating the passions with skilled engagement just doesn't scan at
all.  Watch the face of the truly engaged, and there's almost a blank stare
- as if the person isn't even there.  A detachment from emotional caring
about hitting the target, the person getting out of the way so the target
can do its job and pull the arrow in.

In these situations of selfless attainment, it seems to me that both
intellectual and emotional thinking are transcended.

Hell yes, I know I did.   And in little red riding hood, I cheered for the
wolf.  Every bullfight I've ever watched, I rooted for the bull.  Some of us
are just naturally inclined toward the underdog.
