I am outright when I disagree with Pirsig, unlike you. But in the context of
his writing, I doubt he meant "directed" in any planning or orchestrated sense.
To propose a force that "directs" evolution is simply to turn everything into
non-agenic puppets. I see nothing in his writing that would imply, in any way,
an intentional or volitional force that acts upon the cosmos with "direction".

Instead I see Quality as being the enabling context, the experience of value,
that enables patterns to "create" or "destroy" as they respond to this value. 

As you said, and I agreed, "Dynamic Quality" is that "catalyst" that enables
creation to occur, but it does not "create" itself.

The "direction" of DQ is toward betterness. That's basic MOQ.

This is our perception, yes, but along the way I doubt its been a steady
progression. In any event, "direction" is what you see out of the back of the
car window, "directing" is proposing an agenic driver who is orchestrating the
path of the car.

propose Dynamic Quality. 

This implies only a substitution from "mind magically appearing" to "mind being
poofed onto matter from Qualigod".

You are correct, "mind does not magically appear from matter", as some have
speculated. The MOQ corrects this NOT by positing some agenic Creator that
"poofs" it there, or "directs" it to be there, but by placing the origination
of intellectual patterns in the strata of social patterns.
