Exactly why dwelling on what Pirsig wrote is a dead end. You have to go up
the mountain yourself. Use caution when following a trail blazed by a
charlatan. Some turns will be true, some false, and the only way to succeed
will be by leaving the trail eventually.
However this is harder to apply to Lila. The ZAMM narrator was eradicated in
ZAMM. When Pirsig wrote Lila he called the character Phaedrus; was he
qualified to write that character at all?
Such a silly question.

If you watch again the latest dvd, RMP states clearly he doesn't really
remember much before his hospitalization. Wouldn't those years before the
hospitalization be the Phaedrus years?
