Since we are all human beings, there can be no demonstration of an expanded
intellectual pattern beyond SOM.  It is not routine in daily life.  That
Phaedrus was able to transcend SOM for a time resulted in his
hospitalization.  If there is a difference in this between East and West, it
might only be in the reaction of 'normal' people to it.  Where Phaedrus was
hospitalized in the West, he might have been revered as a mystic in the
East, but in either case, he would have been seen as different from the
norm.
