gav:
classic texts, the buddha and the crucifix - all anathema to totalitarianism.

Andre:
Hi gav, these are some generarisations you throw in the ring but I'll
bite anyway because of what I experienced toninght:

I witnessed the goings on after an accident-just-happened. We were
walking back from the restaurant after having had a wonderful meal. A
small crowd had gathered on the road and taxi's were approaching
turned around as if in avoidance.
We came closer and saw, through the legs of the assembled crowd a man
lying on the bitumen, blood pouring from his head. His motorcycle lying
two yards behind him. I noticed that his shoes ware taken from his
feet.

Three yards behind the fallen bike a woman lay on the road in half
up-right position. The mangled remains of her push-bike behind her.
Her shoes had also been taken off and she held her hand which was
bleeding. She was in pain and discomfort as though the hand was not
the only part of her distress.

She was left alone but nearby the motorcyclist a woman, on her knees
gave the impression of giving comfort...but I could not see any
evidence of this. She was somehow desparate.

Then my friend told me (based on his experience whereby, in an
accident four people were killed immediately and two were fighting for
their lives) that in China, nobody does anything in such situations
because that is proscribed by the law. The law prescribes that, in
situations such as this, you wait for the police. The victims are not
attended to. The police will come, take measurements with a
tape, assess the scene, speak to witnesses, get their report in order
and then call the ambulance to attend to the casualties (if they are
still alive).

I must stress that I have observed this through 'Western' eyes (what
else can I do?). But nobody did anything (apart from having taken the
shoes off those directly involved in the accident).

Is this an example of how the lower levels are treated when dominated
by intellect?

Thank goodness the MoQ has expanded the intellectual level to
'incorporate' an intellectual understanding of and argument for
Quality.

gav, I think the only thing I want to say is that the Quality path
does not differ from the religious path.
I am convinced Pirsig agrees with this. He will take issue, as I will,
with taking the 'religion' path. John will scream about the nonsense
of this rejection because of connotations but the MoQ also asks to
re-consider/ re-assess and re-evaluate 'old' words/terms and
expressions which through SOM have become contaminated and connoted
with meanings far removed from their original intent.

No, I have not read Eckhart Tolle's books. Tell us some more.

Yours sincerely
Andre
