Imprisoning intellect as SOM, yes, by claiming ALL intellect is SOM you take an
evolutionary hierarchy and declare its uppermost level "cancerous". I think
Pirsig's view that this actually undermines the MOQ is spot on.

I think ZMM makes it clear that modern modes of thought are all SOM-derivative,
and all have issues that need to be corrected. In ZMM we see the depressing
fallout on production and consumption, a "capitalism" devoid of craft, art or
care. The alienation described therein, the psychological placation by
consumption, the dualism between mechanic and bike, all show that there is  no
"ism" that is not ill-informed by SOM in the West.

?? Why would you think I'd accuse you of lying?? I've known a few people who
have traveled to Cuba. Some loved it, some hated it. Make no mistake though,
for the most part we made it.
