(one of the major breakthrough's was postulating "betterness" as
an aspect of dynamic quality)(Adrie.)
Quote Pirsig in "LILA"
So what Pheadrus was saying was that not just life, but everything, is an
ethical activity.
It is nothing else. When inorganic patterns of of reality
create life the Metaphysiks of Quality postulates that they'v done so
because it's "better"and that this defenition of "betterness"-this beginning
response to Dynamic Quality-is an elementary unit of
ethics upon wich all right and wrong can be based.
When this understanding first broke trough in Pheadrus' mind, that ethics and
science had suddenly been integrated into a single system,he became so manic
that he couldn't think of anything else for days.
(nothing is changed in the text)
ps, in the annotations, Pirsigs projects a summary that looks non-limitative
about
oneness, absolute, etc, but he does not literally mention betterness in this
context, nor he is excluding it.
Very bright , you cannot exclude it, if you first postulated it , to reside
within the dynamic quality-event.The beginning of an event marks the
existence,--very bright.(imho)
