[MD] question: MOQ, Pirsigism, passionate emotion

So I've begun researching Bob and the MOQ - look what I found looking 
through the N.Y. Times:

I don't feel quite so odd-man-out. So, does anyone know if such work's been 
done? This area - the passions - seems to me the other shoe needed to get 
things rolling. Maybe I'll have to do it?
