Hi Marsha,
Well perhaps your question belies your understanding of Quality.  I'm
sure it was asked in the spur of the moment, and perhaps reflects your
inner understanding.  As such, your apprehension of Quality, which you
provide in your correction, is an intellectual construct still waiting
to take hold.  Otherwise the question would not have been asked in the
way it was.  There is a difference between intellectually
understanding Quality, and knowing Quality.  The latter is part of an
indoctrination which comes from traveling the path and paying
attention to the signs; something which Pirsig has done.  The
metaphysics of quality is more intellectual, and hard to impart to
other aspects of life.  I am also guilty of an intellectual
segregation of Quality, although I have improved since, say, ten years
ago.

I have never understood your patterns of value.  But that is my fault
more than anything.  I have tried to ask questions, but have come no
closer to understanding what you mean.  So, I will not tread that path
again.
