Marsha,
It's funny you mention the kind of journal you used because that's the kind I've started with as well - the black and white marbled composition book. Lu handed it to me and told me to start writing three pages a day but I wasn't very faithful about it til I actually started reading. Now I'm addicted. I see a strong resemblance to a meditative practice in it.
I too, am very glad I started the practice.
Take care,
John

I used those black & white, marbled, student, composition books and wrote, at the very least, three pages per day. After twelve years and within a year after my husband died, I had a ritual and burned them all in the barbecue. When I started journaling there were a few days where there were three pages of a single word. But usually they were filled with "stuff": the good, the bad, the ugly and the beautiful - stories, letters, poems, rants and addressing the good and the bad of a thorny problem, & joy - stuff. I don't really remember more than the journaling exercise, but along with meditation, I am very happy I started such a practice.
