As I've tried to explain many times, your conception of the self is exactly the conception that Pirsig, James and Dewey reject. It's a very, very common view in Modern philosophy and in common sense so it's not like I fail to understand what you're saying about the self. Apparently, you just don't see why this standard view is a problem and, what's worse is that you see the solution as the problem. Like I said, this is like criticizing Protestants for their failure to be sufficiently Catholic. Faced with such "criticism", the Protestant is just going to scratch his head and say, "Yea, I know Protestantism is not Catholicism. That the whole point of being Protestant."
