[MD] Freedom ain't free, but it's getting more and more expensive, and what's worse, the quality???

Hi all,
Sometimes I look back at 9/11/2011 as a missed opportunity. King
George could have asked us Americans to do just about anything on the
days after that national nightmare, and we would have done it. He
asked us to keep shopping, but if he had asked us to change just one
light bulb in our houses to a fluorescent one, we would have changed
them all. If he had asked us to consider riding our bikes to work to
reduce our dependence on foreign oil, instead of looking nerdy
peddling with our helmets, reflectors, and bells, we would have seen
ourselves and one another as patriotic for doing so.
If King George had read Lila and had wanted to take that opportunity
to spur us to progress as a nation, what could he have asked us to do?
If you answer, I hope you'll consider that Pirsig defines progress as
the evolution of static patterns toward dynamic quality. I would
appreciate it if you could explain how your suggestion of what King
George could have said to evolution toward DQ. But I'd be interested
on your thoughts in any case.
God bless America,
Steve
