[MD] Intellectual Separation From DQ

The purpose of this post is to describe the issues and solutions which
arise from trying to discriminate DQ and SQ as components of Quality.
Themes have been presented, such as "following DQ", which implies that
there is something to follow, or that there are times when one does
not follow DQ. It is this separation of DQ into a realm as distinct
from SQ that I wish to explore.

In MoQ a useful split in Quality is made to promote understanding of
the metaphysics. Therefore, Quality is divided into SQ and DQ. All
things that can be encompassed through thought, and considered
response, are relegated to the realm of SQ; DQ is the realm which
provides the stimuli for consolidation of SQ, and also encompasses the
“mechanisms” for SQ creation. SQ requires a form of self-reflection
of the mind which codifies experience into an objective form. This
form is stored in the memory, or exchanged with another like-minded
individual.

It can be said that what we can create in terms of SQ is vaster than
what we do create. Therefore an analogy such as dipping a bucket into
the stream of experience and coming away with a gallon of SQ is
appropriate. It is this dipping which also some consideration. Based
on current scientific understanding of the mechanisms by which the
body recognizes "environmental" input, we can say that such input is
gathered and refined by the brain to create an experience whose
substance is chemical and possibly electromagnetic. From this we can
say that the experience that the body creates in response to stimulus
is one step removed from that place the stimulus came from; the
experience is a personal interpretation of such incoming stimuli.
Indeed, when we taste food, it does not imply that the food exists as
taste, but that when such food interacts with the body, taste is
formed. The grammar which misdirects one by claiming that "food has
taste" is should be more accurately be stated as "food is the
environmental component that serves to create taste as an experience".
The process of tasting is analogous to the bucket pulling out and
establishing experience.

Just as taste is created in response to food, we can say that the
brain creates knowledge in response to input. Since the brain is
highly redundant consisting of seemingly endless feedback systems,
this creation of knowledge is a form of “mulling over”. The notion
that we "uncover" or "discover" knowledge, is therefore somewhat
misguiding; MoQ appropriate terminology would be that we "create
knowledge". Knowledge is created from experience. Experience is
created from interaction. Such knowledge can be experience gained
through the five senses, or an intellectual experience which is
provided from reading, listening, and watching of another’s
experience. This form of experience is primary in our formal
educational process. In the age of documentation, the original
experience leading to any knowledge is often hard to find. Indeed,
the basis for MoQ goes way back.

Knowledge is transmitted from one to another and changes along the way
as the result of personal experience. Knowledge is therefore a
dynamic component of intellectual existence.

DQ is an active process which can be metaphysically pointed to by its
intellectual manifestations. This transition between DQ and “created
knowledge” results from a response to stimuli which is usefully
described as a conversion brought forth by "recognition" and "
intellectual meaning". While these two parameters can happen
together, there are many situations when they do not. Recognition
requires the stimulus to enter into the enormously complex universe of
the brain wherein the environment is aligned with the body in an
"appropriate manner". The distinction between the environment and the
brain becomes murky at this interface, and is more easily recognized
from a distance. The recognition requires a certain "incubation" time
within the brain. This can be named "pattern creation and
recognition" to remain within the vernacular of MoQ.

Thus, we have a "recognition mechanism" through which we create SQ.
While the definition of SQ is not hard to imagine, it is difficult to
point to SQ. This pointing is problematic because there is no place
to point from. The very act of pointing is SQ, and a finger cannot
point to itself. However, any metaphysics is allowed the latitude to
incorporate concepts which may not stand the rigorous test of logic,
or be experienced based. Since all logic depends on a set of
unsupported assumptions, we provide the notions of DQ and SQ to such
assumptions. In short we impose on the reader the concepts of DQ and
SQ, which are mechanistically separated. By way of analogy, DQ is the
"imagining of living in a house", while SQ is the "actual house". The
imagination gives rise to structure. It is proposed that the
transition of DQ to SQ must contain components which are both SQ and
DQ in nature. Due to this interplay, we are allowed into the world of
DQ.

Within the process of imagination we create a dynamic relationship
which gives SQ its DQ characteristics (and DQ its SQ characteristics).
It is in that process of forming SQ that we find DQ. This is the
misty area of reification. The actual building of the house before it
is finished. It is not yet a house, yet no longer imagination. It is
imagination being put to practice. Indeed, if one is continually
adding to the house, this is the input of DQ continuously at work. In
life, we are continuously at work creating knowledge.

Until the thought process is completely converted to static words,
there are DQ components to the act of thinking. The turbulence of the
mind during thinking can be accessed through certain meditative
techniques. For reasons of sanity, we place an emphasis on the
finished product, and this is what we exchange through societal
mechanics, and store as a conceptual memory. Let it be said that this
is not the only form of memory, for example smell is a memory more
akin to DQ storage. The dynamic aspects of DQ which are always
present can be elucidated through the mechanics of a simple (mindless)
conversation. During a conversation, most of the thinking goes on in
the background, and only the final stage of the thinking is the words.
We can often wonder why we said a certain thing, only to realize that
it was appropriate. Responses can come quickly without the torturous
pondering of rational thought. Responses come to mind without knowing
all the thought that went into them. I call this Dynamic thought,
which is the major component of the thought process.

It is in this place that we live in DQ. It is in this area of
existence which lies outside of the "recognition" aspect of SQ, which
we can speculate as to the interplay between DQ and SQ. In my
experience, this area composes most of daily existence. The more
passive logical static thinking is a very small portion of our
existence, and works through certain necessary rules. It is therefore
not much of a leap to state that most of our daily existence occurs in
the "mystical state". That is, a state outside of SQ.

One may ask therefore, if it is such a minor part of the day, why do
we pay so much attention to SQ? Why indeed, is this the impingement
of the social level into the biological level? Any task oriented
existence (which is what we have) requires a focus of attention. This
focus is presented as SQ. We must evaluate the What, the Why, the
where, the goal, and plan our major tasks. Practicing of such
planning places much of the planning into the "back of our minds",
into a DQ existence. This is one reason why "practicing" frees one's
mind up, as is taught in the Zen tradition. Such a tradition seeks to
balance the SQ with the DQ. This is done by taming the continually
chatting brain, where one appreciates it as a mechanical process.

This continual "self speak" (as if we are part of an objective
reality) can give us the illusion that we are separated from DQ.
However, It is impossible to objectify the self. Trying to do so only
leaves one without anything to find. The Self can therefore not be
found logically in an objective manner. If we purely exist within the
world of SQ, we can say that the Self does not exist, which only
points to the pitfalls of the method by which the Self is sought. One
cannot scoop away water to find the deep blue ocean. Living in the
phantasm of SQ makes it seem that we are just skimming the top of a
deep blue ocean. This misdirected logic would be like scuba diving in
that deep blue ocean, and claiming our face mask makes us "not in the
water". However, this is far from the case, and the mask is simply a
tool for being able to focus on details as one swims amongst the
coral.

Through the creation of DQ and SQ in MoQ, one is made aware that more
than just the static words and concepts exist. As I have presented,
DQ can be considered a dominant portion of our everyday life. There
is no need to "follow DQ" since we already do. We only pretend that
we are not following DQ. Following DQ therefore takes no effort
what-so-ever. It is the pretending we are separate that takes all the
effort. All it takes is to stop pretending. This can be done in the
blink of an eye, for no knowledge is needed to stop doing something.
Knowledge only continues the pretending, and leads one deeper into the
SQ world. However, appropriately directed knowledge is a key to
leaving the cage. Once we realize that creating knowledge is like
building a house, we can say "we do not need to build a house
everywhere we go". Sometimes it is good just to go out camping.

Becoming aware of the DQ aspects of our very existence, places us in
the deep blue ocean at every move. We move effortlessly and buoyantly
as we observe the fish darting in and out of the reef. We can let go
of the rock and let the current take us.

It takes no effort to follow DQ, the effort is in insisting that we do
not. In the city one can go from building to building with little
time outside. However, doing so, one misses most of the weather.
Take the time to let the breeze flow through your hair; look no
farther than that next instant. SQ will take care of itself, there
are so many people working on its construction. Pretty soon that DQ
awareness becomes second nature and can incorporate the intellect, and
SQ and DQ become one in Quality. MoQ takes Quality apart so that we
can put it back together in a more meaningful way.

This is not simply some clever metaphysical game, this is real life.
See how free you can be. But be careful. Don't take my word for it,
just ask Pirsig.
