I came home to California for the winter, as I really didn't want to spend January Feburary, etc in North Dakota, where all the jobs are. in my RV.    It's been interesting to me to hear so many people talking about the oil fields up there, where jobs are plentiful and housing is scarce.  I feel like an expert when the subject is brought up, even though I was only there about 5 months.  Upon returning home, I had to find some sort of useful occupation in a land where builders and contractors are a dime a dozen and competing fiercely for any sort of paying work.  Even the normal mode of retreat has been denied us professionals, that of doing homeowner remodeling and fix-up, since the proliferation of the do-it-yourself mentality on many cable shows and the many unemployed having nothing better to do but take up hammer and saw and fix their own fences, repair their own pipes, means that nobody wants or needs my skills.
