Well, I suppose that gives me an advantage, since I'm not a physicist or a
mathematician ;-). But I don't regard my cosmology as a "beyond-logical
Faith" either. Is it illogical to believe there is more to Reality than
this world of finite appearances? Does it contradict logic to support the
first rule of metaphysics which is 'Ex nihilo nihil fit', (nothing comes
from nothingness)? If not, then a primary Source is logically necessary to
complete our understanding of Ultimate Reality.
If I understand you correctly, you've asked for an analogy to "the
experience" of emotions. One should not need an analogy for something as
immanent to the self as emotional experience, unless (like Marsha) you
disavow your self. If the analogy you're seeking is for an otherwise
"indefinable category" like Essence and our relation to it, what comes to
mind is a biological example.
Consider the new Mother whose baby spills from her uterus as a self-aware
locus of experience that loves and needs the nurturing of its maternal
source while developing the capacity to rationalize this experience.
Essence is our "metaphysical Source" and the ultimate object of the desire
and longing which is our relational bond to it. As existents, we are
estranged from the beingness of this Source, sensible only of its Value (to
us) as differentiated by our experience. Metaphysically speaking, we are
autonomous value-sensible creatures in search of our uncreated Source. In
this life-experience we bring Being into finitude by negating its
"otherness" and incrementally extracting its value for ourselves. The total
complement of Value so acquired in this lifetime represents our eternal
reality in the Oneness of Essence.
Does this make sense to you, Joe? If so, please feel free to suggest any
mathematical equations or logical syllogisms you think will make the overall
concept more comprehensible to the typical Pirsigian.
Thanks and essentially yours,
Ham
