Ron (x Acto) stated to John McConnell July 17th:

John,

I was unable to find your essay on robertpirsig.org if you provide a link it would be
useful in addressing your questions. The best way to clarify those questions often
lie in reviewing the material available at robertpirsig.org "An Introduction to Robert Pirsig's
Metaphysics of Quality" by Anthony McWatt is a good place to start followed by "A Brief Summary
[of the MOQ"] by Robert M. Pirsig.

As far as not being"allowed" to use certain terms, it all depends on who you are corresponding with
as well as an interpretation on just what "THE" intellectual level "IS".

Good luck
-Ron

Ant McWatt comments:

Many thanks to everyone who has helped out John with his query.  Believe me, he's already put in a lot of work to improve the quality of the second part of his essay.  Anyway, Ron, the direct link to John's essay is:

Always have a look at the News page at robertpirsig.org if you're looking for a particular paper there.  The column on the left hand side always has an up-to-date list (with links) to all the papers on the site.

Also, don't forget that Paul Turner's updated Tetralemma paper has now been published at:

http://robertpirsig.org/Tetralemma.htm

Paul has sharpened up the rhetoric of his paper, added another example of the positive tetralemma together with some of his correspondence with Robert Pirsig about the subject.

Finally, I'm glad you found the "An Introduction to Robert Pirsig's Metaphysics of Quality" page useful.  Again, that's only just been updated.

Best wishes,

Ant.

Greetings, everyone!

I am the author of "Quality and Inspirationality (Part ))" that was recently
posted on the robertpirsig.org website.  I am working on a rewrite of what
is to be Part ,, but I've hit a conceptual impasse, and I need help in
resolving it.

Pirsig seems to maintain that there's no such thing as intellect outside a
social setting.  If I understand correctly, according to MOQ, intellect
evolves from the social level, not from the biological.  He seems to be
saying that we are born with a blank slate, and concepts get written on it
entirely from our social interactions.  But I can't get it through my head
that our brain would be no different from an ant's brain in that respect:
both blank, with nothing inherent in the biological architecture.  It seems
to me there's a lot of "meat" in a human brain, and I can't understand how
there could be no hardware functionality in it at all...
