[MD] The hard question.

Agreed Horse, re 118
It's important (IMHO) not to over-react, and get pulled down into that
mire of entertaining gain-saying for it's own sake. (The bigger an
issue, the more important for intellect not to take sides - Zizek -
that's war - when social leads the biological to throw the physical at
the other side.)
Obviously Pirsig's ideas, "THE MoQ" evolve - in his own writing and in
a community like MD. Simple fact.
At some point "they" may evolve enough to be unrecognizable as the
original form; inconsistent, incoherent, plain different. Different
ideas. A new species. That's evolution.
Ironically, the MoQ is a story of how that works.
(That's nothing to do with some absolute relativism, that one idea is
as good as another. Clearly the question is always what is good, which
is better ? There are "relations" between things evolving - a
"relationalism" as someone once said on here - but the quality is in
the differences, the relations, never a presumption that one is
"relatively" as good as another.)
Personally - Pirsig's MoQ - as described by him and in the consensus
view on MD - remains "the best framework" I've come across for "life,
the universe and everything".
I have no problem with the lack of (or circularity of) "definition" of
quality and/or DQ - my problem there is with the amount of dialogue
spent on that.
My only problem with the MoQ itself - the one area with "room for
improvement" is consensus on .... (long story) ... "evolving
intellect" .... but still recognizable as "THE" MoQ I believe.
Is this about me ? No, it just explains where I choose to interact with MD.
