Hi Marsha,
Experience is denoted as an active process, while reality is often
considered as a passive presense. But, I have no problem with your
equality since experience can be said to create our reality. However,
I also think that there are components beyond experience, such a the
expression of a DNA sequence. This is of course the nature/nurture
argument. You are firmly on the side of nurture as the sum total of
our being.
We must also bring in a component which manipulates the experience,
which is separate from the experience. For example, a river can be
seen as experience, but the travels of the water is in part set forth
by the river banks. An analogous metaphor can be extended to the
brain. The experience created by the brain is also due to the
structure of the brain. Therefore reality can be seen as more than
set forth through experience.
Again, you do not have to agree with this, it is just an opinion that
I am sharing with you.
Cheers,
Mark
