[MD] Why are things called patterns?

Hi Joe,

The way I see it is that focussing attention is like viewing the world
through a pair of binoculars. If we walked around seeing things with
such binoculars, we would miss most of what is around us. Of course
such focussing is important at times tasks need to be done, but
outside of that such focussing leaves a lot out.

It would seem that for survival we need focussing else-wise we would
cling to DQ, which is impossible. However, there are times when I am
out on a boat with no worries, when I prefer not to focus. Awareness
is much more than the brain focusses on. In fact such focussing can
result in certain neuroses, and distract one from the beauty around
us.

Cheers,
Mark
