"If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?"

The other day I posted a somewhat inflammatory post in Horse's direction and while I make no apology or retraction I do feel the need to explain somewhat that I paused to compose that brief missive in the midst of burying a beloved old dog.

It's hard work, digging a grave and I think above and beyond the labor and sweat that comes with displacing all that hard clay is the psychic toil of knowing we are all headed there eventually. And for me, it was even tougher cuz I knew after I got the hole deep enough I'd have to go over and drag her gamely carcass over to the hole I was digging and man, she really smelled bad. The stink pervaded my nostrils the whole time I sweated and toiled over my task.

We'd had her since she was a puppy, and the whole time she was just the best dog. Always eager to please and never ever doing anything bad or wrong. Australian Shepard mixes make great ranch dogs, and she was. Her whole life. We named her Tosh, cuz we already had Mac when she came to us and Mac and Tosh seemed like a natural pair.

Buddhist monks meditate upon stinking, maggot-ridden corpses as a path to enlightenment and who am I to argue with their methods? But all it did for me was get me sad and depressed. Stopping for a break to check my email seemed like a good idea at the time.

Responding as the spirit moved me, probably wasn't.
