Ham to Ant, Mark, Andre, Tuukka, Dmb and All:
Mark's point voices my opinion that Pirsig's positioning of moral virtue above fundamental reality is what prevents the MoQ from achieving metaphysical status.
Andre:
This response, I am sorry to say, shows your complete ignorance of the MOQ, Ham. Morality is and must be fundamental to any metaphysics. In the complete Western history of philosophy there is only one that is based on morality/virtue/quality/betternes and that is the MOQ.
Ham:
Which means that Quality (Value), although descriptive of human emotions and judgments, does not relate experientially to the fundamental source.
Andre:
Okay you smart alec! And I will put this in bold: HOW DO YOU KNOW THIS? HOW CAN YOU EVEN MAKE THIS STATEMENT? For goodness sake Ham, how can this even be a point of discussion? Experience IS the fundamental source.
How can anyone 'relate' non-'experientially to the fundamental source'? Oh,...oops... you believe in a Creator... an Essentialist... WHATEVER.
My humble apologies!
Ham:
It is one thing to say that the ineffable source is indefinable, but quite another to identify it as Dynamic Quality and claim that it evolves by four levels to "betterness".
Andre:
Dynamic Quality, as you very well know Ham, I mean you have been around here for quite some time, is as far as the MOQ is concerned a (and I will put it in bold again) A REFERRING TERM!!!
I really get the idea that you are adamant NOT to understand the MOQ, NOT even willing to contemplate its insights and premises since a slight realization of MOQ's superiority undermines you life's work: you Essentialist idea. And, I fully understand, is very threatening. It's a bit like dying and many are afraid of death.
Get a life Ham!
