[MD] DQ/SQ is SOM

For RMP,
Before you form an opinion from the title, this is not what you think.
This is in no way bashing MoQ. Pay attention to my argument and you will
see why.
Let's start with DQ/SQ. SQ is the objective world. This world is
something we project. The objects therein are anything from a concept, to
a tree one walks into in the dark. We form the world around us by
objectifying it. That is, we create things we can point to. DQ does not
consist in this objective world. It is undefinable, unknowable. It is
that which we cannot make an object out of.
SOM is a form of thinking which differentiates between "subjects" and
"objects". It is a division made with a razor. It can also be thought of
as the subjective and the objective. The Subject is everything that are
not objects. As soon as one points to the subject it becomes an object,
therefore the subject cannot be pointed at, by definition. The same is
true about the subjective, which is everything that is not objective. As
soon as the subjective is identified as some thing, it becomes objective.
Therefore the subjective cannot be some thing.
How then to distinguish between the subject and the object? How then to
distinguish between SQ and DQ? It cannot be done in the objective world.
The subjective "I" can never be found through mathematical equations, just
as DQ cannot be found in the SQ we create.
SOM is therefore a benign term when it comes to MoQ, through the logic I
have just presented. In fact, through such argument one cannot distinguish
between SOM and SQ/DQ as presented by MoQ.
If SOM is not the enemy, then what is? The enemy I will term OOM. This is
Object-Object Metaphysics. OOM arises when everything is objectified.
That is, when not a thing remains that can not be objectified. This is
the tendency which we find ourselves in with this modern world, where
science dominates, and our very minds are being modeled objectively. This
is the curse of OOM which MoQ does battle with. Intellectual constructs
are part of the realm of OOM. If need be, kill all intellectual patterns,
don't succumb. But there is another way, and that is through MoQ.
Towards the end of ZAMM, Phaedrus is caught in the awareness of Quality.
He walks around the city and finds a lack of Quality in the manner in
which people are living. This is because they have left behind the
subjective world and live completely in a world of objects. Objects from
the car on the street to the poster of "love" on the billboard. This is a
world which has lost half of its being. It is a world without DQ. This is
the message which MoQ brings. This is what Pirsig is trying to tell us.
This is why he wrote his first book. This is why his first book was so
successful. People could relate to the message.
There should be harmony between the personal and the impersonal. A turn
must be taken in the road of progress. There is much more to the world
than that which we can identify as objects. There is also DQ. The
bewitchment of Object-Object Metaphysics has a powerful addiction. It
leaves the very human spirit behind. We must force ourselves not to project
everything out of ourselves as something that can be grasped. There is a
realm outside of objects. We all know such a realm.
DQ and SQ must become balanced. The objective and the subjective must live
in harmony. Quality can never be approximated through a metaphysics. By
driving towards MoQ as a destination, one leaves Quality behind. It is a
metaphysics of Quality, and as such, it does Quality a disservice. MoQ
teaches how to escape from MoQ. It is a door that can be left behind once
one goes through it.
Regards,
Mark
