Rather, in the MOQ experience is primary while subject and objects, patterns
of value, memories, and everything else is secondary. Dynamic Quality and
experience become synonymous within the MOQ.

[Arlo]
Right. And well stated, Dan. This is about as fundamental a statement one
can make about Pirsig's metaphysics. Its about one of the deepest roots in
the MOQ there is, and if you don't start with these roots, then you're not
arguing about particular leaves, you are in a different tree entirely.

[Krimel]
The problem is this fundamental statement leads to mystification and
mysticism because it is left hanging as some sort of mystery. It is not
mysterious or in the least unfathomable. Direct experience is immediate and
entirely analog. It is sensation, a purely biological function of energy
exchange and transduction in which noise becomes signal. It is the raw
material in which perception is rooted.
Perception is a transitional phase at the beginning of our meaning making.
It is the psychological construction of reality. It is the manufacture of
Maya. Among humans these psychological constructions are unstuck in time
and, as memory, can be accessed randomly. When they are accessed randomly
as sense memories, they form feedback loops with immediately present sense
data. As James would have it percepts and concepts co-mingle. When concepts
are transduced into symbols, perception is digitized. That is, it is broken
into chunks which form the raw material for communication. But each symbolic
chunk forms a web of connections with other symbolic chunks and these webs
of connection or schema are highly idiosyncratic. Yours and mine overlap but
perhaps not as much as we think. Symbols are fuzzy sets often with rough
edges. These fuzzy sets in combination can only promote the exchange of
meaning (which is entirely idiosyncratic) to the extent that they are
relatively static or as Dave T says stable.
Where Dan's formulation goes tits up is in equating experience with Dynamic
Quality. This is only half the story. Within the MoQ experience equates with
Quality. As DM has suggested SQ is also experienced as reverberations of the
past echoing in the present. Often SQ is filtered out as constants but even
in being ignored SQ mingles with DQ in the Quality moment of the present.
