I don't know about Lehrer, plagarism or the extent of the James connection.
The book explores the way Proust anticipated later scientific findings concerning memory,
Cezanne anticipated findings concerning vision, Stravinsky concerning hearing, Gertrude Stein and
language, Woolf and personality, etc.  All these connections are not fixed in advance but depend on the
interrelation of art and the mind.
