This one is for Terence, Ken, Timothy, Bill and... very sadly... Eddie too.

"The MOQ Handbook for Drugs" - PART 1

So little time, so many drugs to try in one lifetime!  However, the MOQ (with a little help from Dr McWatt can assist you with this quandary) so let's go through the main drugs available at your local corner newsagent and/or local corner hipster and see what we find:

As we know the MOQ divides static reality into four levels which are put in a hierarchy of moral orders starting with the least "moral" (or less developed along the path of cosmological evolution) to the most moral i.e. in evolutionary order: inorganic, biological, social and intellectual.

In addition to the four static levels, we also have the Dynamic level (or Code of Art) above the static hierarchy.  This applies to the rules (or, just as equally, non-rules) that a fine artist might apply to their work where what "feels right" on the canvas, stone or wood is more important than anything else such as making intellectual sense or being socially acceptable.

So what are the various drugs generally available and how should Western societies treat them:

-------------------------------------------

LSD.  I see that as both an artistic and intellectual drug.  As with most of the intellectual and social orientated drugs mentioned in this post, it's quite safe if taken in moderate doses.  Things to keep in mind:  A trip on LSD takes about 12 hours so don't take it the morning before you have a job interview or meeting the in-laws. It probably is a good idea to have someone round in the house the first time you take it just in case you take too much and have a "bad trip".

Legal status: it should be available in government approved "head shops" with well trained staff.  I think anyone over 25 (unless they are suffering from clinical depression - not just a bad day at work - which is neither here or there!) should be free to buy it in small doses but with the warnings/caveats given above.  Anyone aged between 21 and 25 should only be allowed to buy it only after securing parental and/or college written permission given DIRECTLY to the outlet in question.

Good music to listen to on LSD: late 1960s Moody Blues, Sgt.Pepper's, Pet Sounds, The White Album.  I wouldn't listen to anything too "heavy" though such as Pink Floyd, SMiLE or Abbey Road.

-------------------------------------------

PSILOCYBIN MUSHROOMS (aka "magic mushrooms").  Again, both an artistic and intellectual drug.  Again, as with
most of the drugs mentioned in this post, it's quite safe if taken in
moderate doses.  In fact it's quite safe on immoderate doses (a la Terence McKenna & Bill Hicks) though it is technically possible to overdose on magic mushrooms (while this is meant to be nearly impossible on LSD).  I believe that you'd have to be thinking of ten very large punnets plus...

Things to keep in mind:  A trip on magic mushrooms takes about 8-10
hours so, again, don't take it the morning before you have a job interview or
meeting the in-laws for the first time. (Second time maybe but not the first...)  It is also probably a good idea to have someone round in
the house the first time you take it just in case you take too much and freak out a little but it's far easier to "control" on large doses than LSD.

Legal
status: it should be available in government approved "head shops" with
well trained staff.  I think anyone over 19 (unless they are suffering
from clinical depression - not just a bad day at work - which is neither
here or there!) should be free to take it but with the
warnings/caveats given above. The uneducated occasionally take poisonous mushrooms in error (and with fatal consequences in rare instances) so you need to source your "mushies" from a reputable source or grow them yourself at home (which is quite easy these days).

Good music to listen to on magic mushrooms: Jimi Hendrix's Electric Ladyland, ELO, Madness, Moody Blues, Sgt. Pepper's, Pet Sounds, The White Album and the Wondermints.   Again, I wouldn't
listen to anything too "heavy" on these such as LET IT BE or the post 75 Pink Floyd albums.  However, having said that, if you're in a really good mood to start off with, SMiLE is fantastic to listen to on this drug.  Also some 1967-73 Pink Floyd is definitely worth a listen too.  (After 1973, they start to get too heavy for my liking largely down to Roger Waters domineering obsession with losing his father in WW2 when a young boy).

By the way, I've been told by a reliable source (James Stewart's friend Harvey the Pooka actually), that if you watch the first series of ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT with the sound turned down but with the WHITE ALBUM turned right up; it's absolutely hilarious.  Just like being in your own Looney Tunes cartoon with Bugs Bunny (or Harvey the invisible white rabbit even) for eight hours!

A WARNING NOTE TO THOSE PEOPLE THINKING OF HAVING "CORRECTIVE" EYE SURGERY USING LASERS. NOT ONLY IS IT A RATHER FOOLISH THING TO TRY AND STATICALLY TREAT A DYNAMIC ORGAN SUCH AS AN EYE (WHICH CHANGES CONSIDERABLE OVER A LIFETIME), SUCH AN UNNECESSARY AND INVASIVE TREATMENT WILL ALSO RUIN YOUR PSYCHEDELIC VISUAL EXPERIENCE.  PEOPLE HAVE EVOLVED SHORT SIGHT FOR GOOD REASONS AND PSYCHEDELICS ARE ONE OF THEM.

-------------------------------------------

CANNABIS

Cannabis (aka pot or weed) is the drug used by the Oxford University psychologist Susan Blackmore who stated to the Daily Telegraph in 2005:

"I can honestly say that without
cannabis, most of my scientific research would never have been done
and most of my books on psychology and evolution would not have been
          written."

Cannabis is also a good social drug; and, in fact, the social drug of choice for many intellectuals, fine artists and musicians.  However, the latest research does that heavy doses of the drug (usually in the form of the scally sold "skunk") can be harmful to the under-21 brain so that's where it's legal limit needs to go.

Amsterdam shows the way in how cannabis should be sold i.e. with a wide choice given on menus from mild grass to stronger skunk like products.  Probably the most dangerous aspect of cannabis is that it's often combined with tobacco - a seriously carcinogenic and addictive drug.  Dr McWatt therefore recommends the use of a bong or a vapouriser for health reasons when using cannabis:

Things to keep in mind: Cannabis can lead to vague feelings of paranoia if strong variations are smoked too often.

Legal
status: it should be available in government approved "head shops" with
well trained staff.  I think anyone over 21 should be free to take it but with the
warnings/caveats given above.

Good music to listen to on cannabis: The mid-sixties albums of the Beatles and Beach Boys such as Today, Rubber Soul and Revolver.  The later Beatle albums such as Sgt. Pepper's, Abbey Road and LET IT BE are good on it too as are most Jimi Hendrix tracks, Mike Oldfied, Badfinger, Fleetwood Mac, ELO, Moody Blues, The Wondermints and Pink Floyd.  Jazz LPs such as Mile Davis's "A Kind of Blue" are definitely worth listening too on this drug.  A splendid time is guaranteed for all...

In the remaining post/s for the "MOQ Handbook for Drugs", WE WILL CONTINUE WITH SOCIAL DRUGS SUCH AS ECSTASY, SO-CALLED LEGAL HIGHS AND THE "LESS MORAL" DRUGS (SUCH AS ALCOHOL, COCAINE, HEROIN & TOBACCO; the real killer drugs) WHICH NEED CLOSE CONTROLS BOTH PERSONALLY AND LEGALLY DUE TO THEIR MORE DANGEROUS SOCIAL & BIOLOGICAL ASPECTS.
