Hello , Krimel.

Yes, we have many parks here , although small and well hidden that are
basically still the real event they were in their period of time.
We have a park here in Belgium called Bokrijk, full of beech trees from the
early medieval period,and oaks that can talk history..;
but in ww1 and ww2 our German neighbours here took over the park and stole
many of the trees to make gunstocks, and mainly
the black walnut fell aprey to that event, which is also the reason we
don't have many walnut trees left in Belgium that are older than
either ww1 or ww2-/, but they left the oaks and beeches. That specific park
was themed long ago, to harbor all old farms in Belgium
that had to disappear from the countryside , due to urbanisation. The
people behind the project took them all down, to reassemble them
exactly in their original state, with the old beams and reed roofing intact,
yes, like they were, they also took all the pictures before and
after the operation. They also own and are in the possession of all the old
deeds. It became a small village belonging to the middle ages.
It survived the German invasions and can be visited,..there is no
Disnification,no Barnumised advertising, you cannot buy a hamburger from
Mc Donalds,;.even the flowers in the old gardens are relicts from old
convents, old castle's and are very rare , some of them only surviving
in the park as an endling...
However we can say the whole event is ex-situ, and today it is not allowed
anymore to preserve ex-situ; they only do project nowadays
in-situ.So if you want to have the real look and feel of an old Dutch barn,
along with the smell--,have your go.Here they are bading in their aura.

And another, this one tops Keukenhof easily, and empress Charlotte really
lived in the castle, and died there,it is not a theme park, but has all the
plants from the Congo, and
places that do not exist anymore. Its better than Kew gardens.

And , one of the worlds finest, the royal serres.

I'm very interested in your American parks and the area's you and Dan are
talking about, and it is a certainty that i will visit the bulk of them in
the near future, altough corona will have a part in the story obviously.
Thinking about what you wrote, Krimel , one of the differences you mention
on the European/America approach is very well known here,
americans like to drive their
pimped-chromed-pertol-guzzling-compressed-hemi truck up to the nose of the
bison,up to the nose of the bear,..
And that is VERY different from our approach, or even the approach of Ansel
Adams, when he took his most famous pictures in the parks.
I know his work very well, i used to have a big collection of Leica's and
Nikkormat's, and Rolleiflexes. His zoning system set me on track to
fotografie. The main reason his signed prints are so expensive, is that he
not only signed them, he made each and every reproduction that is
signed by himself in the darkroom on what we call here Barietpapier;
priceless, and utter beauty made by man, but derived from a nature
that is brutally beautiful...I still have an old Olympus om/2 in working
order,i still use it.The Rollei's and Leica's are sold long ago,....

Have to go now,..
Adrie
