What about the government who failed to provide enough funding for the levees? What about the elderly, who because of poverty, or ill circumstance, who lived below the water line, couldn't evacuate and died instantly?  

I see and understand your argument.  There is certainly truth to it, that some people rely on government too much and expect hand-outs, and there is truth to the what you would call the 'liberal' statements which I raised above.

Both sides are important. Individuals need societies just as societies need individuals.
