Steve said to Mati about Bo's understanding the MoQ:
You suppose that metaphysics is a fundamental
intellectual pattern that all other intellectual patterns
depend upon. I don't see it that way. I suppose that
"simply thinking" (intellect) must have preceded "thinking
about thinking" (metaphysics).
Matt:
This might be the most succinct way I've seen in putting
the problem many have sensed in Bo's SOLAQI
interpretation of the MoQ. I'm jealous.
In particular, it points at it at a level of generality that
suggests a warning to others as well--remember that
metaphysics, even the ones that we create (including
Pirsig's MoQ, even when it's not Bo's MoQ), is not an
undergirding to reality. Another way of putting it is that
we should avoid architectural metaphors (foundations,
structures, undergirders) in our articulation of what we
are doing for this reason--it tends to inflate the
importance of what we are doing, even to the point of a
full-on confusion of metaphysics for reality.
