Ok Arlo, I'm gonna lay out for you my particular rant now. Pay close
attention and please don't jump to conclusions based on past arguments with
others. I'm certainly not a knee-jerk talk show follower, ok?
The fact that those who hold the theories understand them to be just that,
is true. But the way it works in the modern age, intellectualism takes a
diabolical twist. Because the theoretical knowledge, gleaned by analytical
minds, is encapsulated and transmitted via powerful media imagery into the
homes of millions, and these millions don't really think through the
philosophical underpinnings of theory and analogistic ways of thinking.
They pretty much take what they see as truth. They conflate the image with
the word, they confuse the reality they see (an artificial construct) as the
same thing as "the truth of the experts". They believe they understand the
origins of life, the universe and everything.
Ellul helped me to see all this, and he points to the culprit as the CHURCH
that started it all. The medieval church with its icons and painted
representation, heck, even the crucifix, all this imagery was constructed to
impress upon the minds of the masses the hidden priestly truths of the
bible, a seeingly noble and efficient means but unfortunately, expressly
forbidden by the same tome they touted.
Read the second commandment sometime in a non-catholic bible.
They did far more damage to society than Aristotle, for nowadays this
technique is unleashed upon a supposedly democratic nation, with the result
being the deluded and ignorant masses see something on tv, they don't take
it analogistically, they take it as reality itself. And this has worse
effects than cosmological ignorance. It's got great political significance.
I'd feel sorry for most of them, but Krimel really oughta know better.
Honestly, when he mentioned watching Nova, I literally fell on the floor
laughing.
