You know my real problem is not with the religion at all. Anybody should be
free to believe whatever they choose as long as it doesn't cause harm to anyone
else.
[Arlo]
And it harm none, do what you will. A great motto. I don't have a "problem"
with religion either, mythology is a favorite pastime of mine.
[Mary]
As I said earlier, by affording Creationism a place in Biology textbooks, the
implicit message is that the scientific method is only useful if it supports
your belief system. This is a truly dangerous idea that, if left unchecked,
will subvert a generation of scientists.
[Arlo]
Agree. Listen, you said something in an earlier post that I also agree with,
and that is that comparative mythology (you may have said comparative religion)
would be an appropriate class for this. I'd say that schools would benefit from
a Joseph Campbell-like comparative myth class.
Jeez.. in another thread I am defending "pantheism" from an association with
the Occidental-S/O underpinnings of Western Culture, and have pointed out that
Pirsig's analogizing of the MOQ with the Tao ties it to the pantheistic
metaphor (as far as inter-relational and interconnected patterns go) as a
condemnation of alienating theism (where "man" is always apart from "god").
[Mary]
God save us from the Social Level.
[Arlo]
Only we can save ourselves from our illusions. :-)
On a side note, you better brace yourself. We are positioned for quite the
retrogressive swing of the pendulum... or so my spidey-senses tell me...
