Well even as a nature-worshipping, tree-hugging, pantheist, I a sorta agree
with Platt's point.

What? That there are religions that worship nature? Ah duh. What kind of
miracle breakthrough was THAT? But this is just an attempt to smear
anyone/everyone who waxes the slightest bit towards concern for our environment
as some religious zealot (interfering with God's Capitalism!).

I think a lot of what passes as environmentalism is actually the desire of
SOMish society to ameliorate its worst effects so that it can keep on rolling.

No doubt that many responses to SOM effects of production/consumption are,
themselves, SOM-based. Pirsig touched on this in ZMM when he talked about
"tearing down a factory" without changing the mindset (will simply reproduce
another factory).
