Ron to Andre:
I have brought this up to Bodvar many, many times in the past
just this very idea, the notion that the intellectual
level is defined by the culture it emerges from.
He has none of it...he insists that intellect=the s/o distintion,
everywhere, in every culture, it is a universal evolutionary stage of
development.
Andre:
I agree with Bodvar that the S/O distinction was born with Aristotle,
that it was a product of Greek culture. This is what Pirsig argues in
ZMM. I am leaving the SOL intact. What I am suggesting/exploring is
that this scientific understanding of reality has been adopted by the
scientific community in one way and that different cultures have
assimilated/ absorbed and responded ,to the effects of its attempts to
control society in different ways.
Its influence is now beginning to be felt in the Orient.
What I am suggesting is that the S/O logic as a tool is not a very
useful way to dominate society. It may be useful to conduct scientific
experiments with (at the in/ organic levels) but not to be inflicted
upon a higher evolved pattern. I pointed to the problems that arise
when this SOL uses a social PoV to meet its own purposes.
I am also aware of the tickly assumption I make that words are not symbols.
I do hope Bodvar participates in the discussion and does not only
pontificate. As mentioned this is a suggestion to clear up the, in
Bodvar's words, 'petsky' intellectual level (in relation to Pirsig's
definition thereof).
I'm not sure but I got the sense that more participants here are not
completely happy with Pirsig's definition. I mean, this is quite
important for the MoQ. But I feel also that Bodvar, with his SOL has a
very good point. To level ad hominem attacks does not make the point
go away.
Imho
