Reason. Although not necessarily S/O reason, for sure.

Both evolution and creationism are intellectual patterns.

Wrong. Creationism was a social level pattern (theism) masquerading as an
intellectual pattern (science). It failed, thankfully, although it did set the
stage for the reductionist tactics you are trying to push.
